Profile

GEMA ART has been active in the field of monument conservation and restoration since 1990 and thanks to the quantity of remarkable works and the complexity of the services we offer, it gained a unique and irreplaceable position in the field of historic restoration in the Czech Republic. The main activities include the restoration and conservation of protected monuments and works of art. Permanent co-operation with experienced restorers and experts from related scientific fields creates an efficient and professional team for the organization of any projects in the field of conservation. Thanks to this structure, GEMA ART is capable to respond dynamically to the challenges that can often arise during the course of the work. Apart from this, great attention to scientific research and emphasis on the application of new scientific methods and technologies is given to any project. Not only conservation projects, but also scientific assessments have been carried out, e.g. researches in the framework of the WMF projects. Results are regularly presented at professional symposia or International Conferences.
In past years, GEMA ART has acquired extensive experience in the field of conservation of monuments within the framework of the European Union’s Phare Program. Four recent projects that were carried out with the participation of Gema Art, were awarded by Europa Nostra for conservation of cultural heritage; the most important of these awards was endowed in 2002 for the complete reconstruction of Wallenstein Palace, the seat of the Senate of the Czech Republic.
However, GEMA ART is not exclusively concentrated on state or governmental projects, the considerable part of the work has been carried out also for churches, museums or for private sector. For example, GEMA ART participated at the restoration works at Lyons Demesne, a private castle in Ireland or the restoration of paintings of Sabbah Collection in Kuwait. An integral part of GEMA ART activities is also education of new generation of experts specialized in the field of care of monuments. By means of the participation in board of directors as well as the members of team of lecturers, GEMA ART restorers have been active in the education of future restorers first in the Institute for Restoration and Conservation Techniques in Litomyšl, now transformed into the Faculty of Restoration of Pardubice University.
