Iwan Al-Mada'in, Ctesiphon, Iraq
The project was performed in the framework of the aid program for preservation of the cultural heritage of the Iraq Republic approved by the government of the Czech Republic. The project for the preservation of Iwan al-Madaen palace in Ctesiphon, which is currently one of the most significant landmarks of ancient Mesopotamia, was launched in October 2004. Samples of brick and masonry fragments were collected and sent to the Czech Republic where a detailed scientific investigation and material study was carried out. Two year projects resulted in the material study and proposal for materials for conservation. Results of the project were published in the 7th European Conference „Sauveur“, Safeguard Cultural Heritage, Prague, Czech Republic, 2006 under the title Geopolymers in the Reconstruction of Iwan al-Madá´in Cteisiphon, Iraq.
